D.A.R.E.
School Resource Officers and the D.A.R.E. Program The Enterprise Police Department has two certified School Resource Officers (SRO), Lt. Cindy Dunaway and Officer Adair Lee, who are responsible for teaching the D.A.R.E. curriculum. D.A.R.E. is a nationally recognized drug prevention program that is taught in then Enterprise schools to approximately 6,500 students. The Enterprise Police Department began the D.A.R.E. program in Enterprise in 1990 with one D.A.R.E. officer who focused on teaching the ten lesson core curriculum in elementary schools to the 6th grade classes. Over the years, the D.A.R.E. program in Enterprise has grown to not only include 6th grade classes, but also first grade classes. D.A.R.E. officers have even extended the curriculum to reach students at the secondary level, in 7th, 9th, and 10th grades. In addition to the core curriculum, D.A.R.E. officers also present other programs and classes throughout the school system, including in-service training for teachers. While D.A.R.E. is an important focus of the SRO's, it is only one aspect of their very important role in the lives of our young people. They are often asked to counsel with students as well as assist school administrators with situations involving juveniles and the law. |
